Windows Vista / 7

• Insert USB Flash Drive into your computer.
• Right Click on the USB Flash Drive > Properties
• Navigate to ReadyBoost tab.
• Select Use this Device and allocate the amount of memory to use (better choose around 80% of USB Flash Drive's size)
• Click OK to apply all settings, then Restart the computer for changes to take effect

Have you ever plugged in a USB drive or any external device with a hard drive and wondered why you cannot see it in My Computer?More than likely the cause is that Windows renamed the drive to a letter that is already in use. This will happen if you have several card readers, thumb drives or external hard drives attached. It will also happen if you are on a network and have mapped drives.To find the drive and then rename it, you’ll want to right-click on My Computer and select Manage.

• From the Computer Management screen, select Disk Management.

• In this window you should see all of your connected physical drives, their format, if they are healthy, and the drive letter.

• In this instance I am going to change the drive letter of my Lexar USB drive. Right-click on the drive in the list, and from the resulting menu select “Change Drive Letters and Paths…”

• Click on Change so we can change the drive letter. You might notice that you can select Add, which would let you mount the drive into a folder if you wanted to. We don’t want to, so just click Change.

• Select a new drive letter from the drop down list, preferably the one that you usually use for this drive.

• Click Yes on the confirmation screen and you are done

• If you have auto play enabled, you will get the normal pop up dialog asking what you want to do.

Steps :

• To get to the configuration screen for this setting, go to Start Menu \ Run and type in:

 gpedit.msc

• You will see the Group Policy window. You should select Administrative Templates \ System in the tree view:

• You will see an item in the right side pane called “Turn off Autoplay”

• Double click the item, and set the radio button to Enabled, and change the “Turn off Autoplay on” to All Drives.

• Now you should be safe from the autoplay monster.

Disable AutoPlay in Windows Vista
Windows Vista’s AutoPlay options are a great improvement over Windows XP in terms of flexibility, but unfortunately there are so many options that it can be confusing, especially since there’s no specific mention of USB Flash drives in the options.

• Open your Control Panel, and then click on “Play CDs or other media automatically” to open the AutoPlay dialog.

Disable AutoPlay Globally

• The quickest way to disable AutoPlay entirely is to just uncheck the box for “Use AutoPlay for all media and devices”, which should usually work.

Disable for a Single Type

• You can choose a setting in the drop-down menu for a single type of drive, for instance Audio CD in this example. For this to work you’ll have to make sure to keep the global autoplay option on, and then choose the specific setting in the drop-down.

Disable for just Removable (flash) Drives

• The problem here is that while there are settings for Audio CDs and DVDs, there’s nothing specifically for USB flash drives. Windows will determine the drive type based on the content it finds on the flash drive itself, so that’s what we’ll need to change.
• In order to disable AutoPlay for the removable drives, you should change all of the following to Take no action: Software and games, Pictures, Video files, Audio files, and Mixed content.

Disable Through Group Policy

• A number of readers have written in complaining that the option to disable autoplay isn’t working for them, so if you’d like to disable it entirely you can use the Group Policy editor on the Business and Ultimate versions of Vista.
• Open up gpedit.msc through the start menu search box, browse to Windows Components \ AutoPlay Policies, and change the value of “Turn off Autoplay” to enabled.

•  You can choose whether to disable for just removable devices, or entirely. I’m not sure if that makes any sense, however.

Disable with Registry Hack
The Group Policy editor is not available on Windows Vista Home editions, so I’ve also included the registry tweak to disable AutoPlay entirely.
Download and unzip this registry hack and then double-click on the appropriate file.

• DisableAutoPlay.reg will disable autoplay entirely.
• DisableAutoPlayRemovable.reg will disable autoplay on removable devices.

Disable AutoPlay of Blank CD or DVD media

• Ubuntu will automatically launch a CD burning tool when you insert a blank data cd or dvd. This can sometimes interfere with something else you are doing right at that moment.
• To disable this, navigate to System \ Preferences \ Removable Drives and Media:

• Uncheck the box, and you will no longer autoplay blank discs.

Assalam o Alaikum! Friends today i am going tell tell the solution mother disease everyone encounter that is "SUB Device not Recognized"

Modern computers have 4 to 5 usb Ports for Mouse, key board, camera, Mobiles Digital cameras and much more. You are with this "SUB Device not Recognized"

Some times u think that drivers are not good and u reinstalll the drivers, but problem remains same.

This method is not done throgh installing the new drivers or editing.Just unplug your power cable of the PC.

Dont just turn off your PC, unplug the power cable, because todays CPU do not turn off.
Now you think that what is relationship of power cable with this problem.

Motherboard which performs all functions including usb. Sometimes the motherboard needs to be “Rebooted”. when u unplug ur cable than the small microprocessor on the motherboard reload the drivers and your USB ports should be back to recognizing all devices!

• Repeat the above Steps for other drives. To navigate to other Drives, First type “cls” to clear your ‘command prompt’ then type “d:” . Repeat the Steps for all the Drives including your USB Disk Drive.
• Restart your System.
